10 July 2025

Automotive - Jun25 car sales slow down The Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) recorded that sales of four-wheeled vehicles or more in the domestic market continued to experience a slowdown in June 2025. In the data, the total distribution from factories to dealers (wholesales) nationwide was recorded at 57,760 units, down 4.7% compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, retail sales slightly grew by 0.6% from 61,307 units to 61,647 units. Although the market is still sluggish, Toyota continues to dominate sales with total wholesales recorded at 17,819 units. However, this figure has decreased significantly compared to May 2025, which reached 20,995 units.Daihatsu is in second place with total wholesales of 9,356 units. Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Motors occupies the third position, recording an increase in sales, rising from 4,756 units in May to 5,053 units in June. Suzuki occupies the fourth position with wholesales of 4,940 units, while Honda is in fifth place with 4,179 units. (Source : Kontan) Comment : Despite the current downturn, Gaikindo remains cautiously optimistic, setting a 2025 car sales target between 750,000 and 900,000 units. Industry players are banking on upcoming marketing efforts and major automotive exhibitions like GIIAS 2025 (scheduled for July 24 - August 3) to stimulate sales. Further monetary easing by Bank Indonesia, if it occurs, could also make car loans more accessible. The growth in the EV segment, particularly with competitive offerings from Chinese brands, is also seen as a potential driver for future market expansion.
